Java 7 publicly available and starting to auto update

I noticed yesterday that when you go to download Java from you are offered version 7 update 4, rather than the version 6 update “something”.

I tried to find out if that meant that the java auto update would start deploying version 7u4 to users by posting a comment to an Oracle Java 7 Q&A blog from last year and was told “yes”:

“With the release of Java SE 7 Update 4, the Java SE 7 runtime is now available on as the default JRE. We are now automatically upgrading Microsoft Windows Java users to the latest version of Java SE 7 through the auto update function. If you don’t desire to be automatically upgraded to Java SE 7 just yet, you can learn more about your options in the FAQ” – via email from Tori at Oracle.

So there you go.
